Use this to stock the condo, plan Sunday market runs, and find fresh bread, produce, and fish—without the guesswork.

Full-Line Supermarkets

Supermercado Econo – Rincón (PR-115, Plaza Rincón Shopping Center)

This is our go-to option where you’ll find almost everything you’re needing grocery-wise.

Chain market with bakery/deli, produce, household basics, ATM, and WIC acceptance. Hours commonly show Mon–Sat 6 a.m.–10 p.m., Sun 8 a.m.–7 p.m. (verify day-of). It’s the town’s primary big supermarket right on PR-115.

Edward’s Food Market / Famcoop (PR-115, near Stella)

This one is actually slightly closer to our condo in Stella, but we don’t go here quite as often – it’s smaller and sometimes pricier than Econo, but has some unique options we can’t find at Econo. Locally run supermarket known for produce, pantry staples, and courteous service. It posts weekly specials on social (search “Edward’s Food Mart Rincón”). If you don’t see an item, ask—owners are hands-on.

Tip: For a one-and-done big shop, Econo or Edward’s will cover 95% of needs (eggs, milk, rice/beans, snacks, cleaning, paper, ice). Bring reusable bags—some lanes are bag-your-own.

Pueblo Supermarket

Both Aguadilla and Mayaguez have larger Pueblo supermarkets. We often fly into Aguadilla, and may stop by the Pueblo on our way to Rincon depending upon the time of day. Either location is about a 30-40 minute drive from the condo.

There are also a couple of supermarket options in Aguada and Anasco.

Health-Forward / Natural Foods

Edward’s Go Natural (in the same plaza as Edward’s)

This is my go-to for special vegetarian/vegan options that I may not be able to find at the other two stores. Small health-food shop with vegan staples, alternative flours, plant milks, gluten-free items, and supplements. Typical hours posted as daily 9:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m. (confirm on arrival).

Farmers’ Market (Best for Produce + Local Goods)

Mercado Agroecológico de Rincón (Town Plaza)

Sundays, morning to early afternoon (commonly 8:00 a.m.–1:00/1:30 p.m.) at the Plaza Pública. Expect local fruit/veg, herbs, baked goods, cheeses, jams, coffee, kombucha, soaps, and crafts. Go early for best selection and cooler temps. Parking may be available around the square, or at the baseball field. Do not block driveways or gates.

Fresh Fish Options

Pescadería Rincón

Just down the road with a straight shot from Calle Uroyuan. Local fish market posting daily availability; typical notes show open daily around 7:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m. Call or message ahead to reserve fillets when possible. Ask for local species (dorado/mahi, snapper, kingfish) and cleaning preferences.

If they’re sold out, which is rare, check nearby coastal towns the same morning; inventories in small pescaderías move fast. You can also try the Marina in the early morning when fishermen return – we’ve gotten super fresh fish, fully cleaned, for a very affordable price this way.

Bakeries (Panaderías)

Panadería La Rincoeña (by the town plaza)

Classic local bakery for sweet breads, café, and simple sandwiches—good early stop before the market.

Panadería y Cafetería Calvache (PR-115, Calvache sector)

Neighborhood spot for fresh bread, desayunos (breakfast), and grab-and-go pastries; long hours (often 5:30 a.m.–10:00 p.m.).

Other nearby options show up in bakery roundups—Ricomini, which is relatively close to our area, and Sunset Bakery—if you’re exploring outside the center.)

Smart Shopping Plan (48-Hour Example)

Stop 1: Supermarket (Econo or Edward’s)
Milk, eggs, yogurt, coffee, butter, cereals/oats, rice/beans, salad greens, tomatoes, onions, plantains, pantry snacks, water, paper goods, condiments. My must-buy Dr. Pepper at Econo lol…

Stop 2: Health-Food Add-Ons (Edward’s Go Natural)
Alt milks, gluten-free bread/pasta, nut butters, non-aerosol reef-safe sunscreen, mineral salts/spices.

Stop 3: Sunday Market (Plaza)
Leafy greens, herbs, tropical fruit (papaya, pineapple, passionfruit when in season), local breads, cheeses, empanadillas, salsas, honey, coffee beans, chocolate. Grab gifts here too.

Stop 4: Pescadería (same morning)
Today’s catch for dinner; ask for fillets and suggested cooking method (plancha with lime/garlic works on anything).

House Menu Starters (Easy + Local)

  • Market Fish a la Plancha: Fresh fillet, salt/pepper, olive oil, garlic-lime finish; side of rice + market greens.
  • Tostones + Mojo: Green plantains from the supermarket; mojo with garlic, cilantro, lime.
  • Fruit + Yogurt Breakfasts: Papaya + pineapple + granola from Edward’s/market.

Payment, Hours, and Practicalities

  • Cards vs. Cash: Big supermarkets generally take cards; small stalls may prefer cash or the ATH mobile app. (Carry small bills for market and pescadería.)
  • Hours Vary: Island hours can shift by season/holiday. Always check the posted hours or recent social updates, especially on Sundays and holidays.
  • Parking: Econo/Edward’s have on-site lots; for the Sunday market, use plaza-area street parking and arrive early.
  • Reusable Bags & Cooler: Bring bags; a small cooler in the car helps between stops.
