Remote-Work Ready Rentals in Western Puerto Rico (Oct–Dec)
If your checklist reads “fast Wi-Fi, backup power, workspace, ocean air,” the west coast is an easy yes. Here’s how to set up a productive work-cation without sacrificing sunsets.
What internet speed is “good enough” for work calls?
Aim for 25–100 Mbps down and stable upload for video meetings. Ask hosts for a recent speed test and router location. Pro tip: bring a short Ethernet cable and a USB adapter just in case.
Our condo uses the fastest internet available *at the beach* (this is an important distinction), and we use signal-boosting pods to help with the wifi signal between the concrete walls of the unit.
Should you ask about backup power and water?
Yes. Storms and brief utility hiccups happen in the tropics. Look for:
- Generator coverage: Even if an entire unit isn’t on generator, many complexes power essentials (lighting/elevators/common areas) during outages.
- Water storage: A small cistern or on-site reserves help maintain basic service.
- Cellular fallback: Strong LTE/5G is a useful tethering Plan B.
At Victoria Del Mar, our complex has generator-supported common areas (exterior parking gate, front building door code, elevators, security lighting in common areas) and the condo has a small water cistern—handy for short disruptions. Message us for current specifics and the latest speed tests.
Note that when electricity goes out in Rincon, after an hour the internet will also go out (their own generator seems to last around an hour). When this happens, we may pop over to one of the chain restaurants which tends to have solid wifi, such as Church’s Chicken, and grab lunch while we work off their guest internet.
What makes a rental truly work-friendly?
- Defined workspace: Table + comfortable chair away from the TV.
- Shade + airflow: Balcony for thoughtful breaks and screen-free resets.
- Quiet hours: Ask about neighboring units and any construction notices. Our condo building is always quiet unless someone is doing some emergency maintenance, which is one of the reasons that we love it.
- Walkability: Coffee, lunch, and a 10-minute sunset swim keep energy steady.
A sample weekday rhythm
7:00a walk + stretch on the beach
8:00a–12:00p meetings (shade, balcony breaks)
12:30p café lunch + quick errand
1:30p–4:00p deep work
5:30p swim + sunset
7:00p dinner + offline reading
Western Puerto Rico hubs to consider
- Rincón: Café culture, surf breaks, cowork options.
- Aguadilla: Larger town amenities, regional airport access.
- Aguada: Calmer residential pockets, good value.
